Throw Back Thursday: Four Types of Love

Untitled by Surimi
Untitled by Surimi

How many ways can someone love?

How many ways can the heart feel?

How many ways can someone care?

How many ways can the heart beat?

Is it possible to love one as a friend

And another as one’s lover?

Is it possible to wring your hands for one

And interfere for another?

Can love be separated into categories

And files?

Can love be expressed in different ways

From one person to a bevy of others?

Is love worth experiencing?

Which sorts of love should one chase?

Is love ever to become something whole and unbreakable?

Which sorts are those that are closest to perfect?

This poem, I believe, I wrote around the time that I was researching a speech on the 4 Greek words for ‘love’ for my Academic Decathlon competition. I like for the current period because I just finished reading Gone Girl and the question of love and how it works was a major theme in that novel: I can’t wait to see the movie.
